Vernon Everett Match Boat League Presentation Evening.
Well, what a year 2024 has been for the Vernon Everett match boat competition anglers with twenty-three competitors fishing seven matches, on a bait supplied basis. Fishing between three ports, fishing two matches at each venue, Lymington, Poole and Weymouth.
The bait supplied packs contained ten ounces of squid, three mackerel and 8 ounces of ragworm. A big thank you to Christchurch Angling Centre for their sponsorship on the frozen bait packs. We couldn't do this with out you.
A total of 5154 fish were recorded during seven matches, with 39 different species being caught, including cod, red bream, auxiliary bream, red band fish and rock cook wrasse. Separate to the main competition, we also run two optional pools, one for the most species over the series for an individual angler. Plus, a three-man team that is seeded to encourage the development of the match group, enhancing everyone's skills.
Top species angler for 2024 was Ed Taylor with 28 species. In second place was Mike Fox with 27 species, closely followed by Martin Bobbett with 26 species. As for the three-man team event Robin Lane, Gareth Smith and Ed Taylor took first place with a total of 1237% over second placed Richard Day, Martin Bobbett and Malcolm Gerrish with 1169% followed up in third place by Paul Hollyoake and Mike fox competing as a three-man team with a percentage of 1159%.
This year's series winner with 554.02% was Ed Taylor, beating Paul Hollyoake by3.0% with a score of 551.33% in to second place. Mike Fox took third place with 533.13%. A close final match in Weymouth determined the final three positions for this year's top three anglers. Well done.
For the first time this year we have introduced two extra trophies which are competed for at the final match day in Weymouth. Each boat is seeded relative to the previous six results fished. The final winner from the series is won on boat one, then boats two and three trophies are competed for on that final day. This year winners were Steve Batchelor on boat two and Andy Richmond on boat three.
I would also like to wish Phil Higgins skipper of "Mistress Linda" a happy retirement and thank him for his commitment to our league over the years. This series wouldn't be still running with out him. Phil was presented with a whisky glass at the presentation as a thank you on behalf of the Match Boat group.
The camaraderie and banter throughout the year has been second to none. As a club we are very fortunate to have such an especially strong competitive group of match anglers, all willing to help and learn. A big well done to every one who fished this series. Roll on 2025.
We are still looking for anyone who would like to fish the series or even volunteer to be a scorer. If you are interested, please contact either
