Vernon Everitt Boat Match 6th Competition.

On Sunday 15th September the club held its 6th match in a series of six Vernon Everitt Match League competition which is kindly sponsored by Loni's Angling Centre of New Milton. With the weather and tides being favourable fifteen club members left Poole aboard two charter boats, "Boney M" skippered by Louis Medley and "Mistress Linda" skippered by Phil Higgins. These matches are fished on the basis of number of types of species caught with varying number of points having been allocated for each species and tatols of each species with 10 being the maximum number caught of any one species. With a set maximum fishing time both skippers can choose where they fish throughout the day.
This being the last match in the series anglers boat and positions were decided by overall positions in the league with the first eight fishing from "Mistress Linda" and the remaining fishing aboard "Boney M". At the start of the match it was still all to play for with several in with a chance of overall league winner.

Boat Match Tuition Day.

On Thursday 29th August Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club held a tuition day for members who are interested in taking part in competitions, specifically aimed at those who prefer their fishing aboard boats. With the success and popularity of the club's Match Boat League the idea of this day was for anglers to fish alongside more experienced anglers who would be showing the basics of competition angling. They would also assit with all aspects of making everyone not only more competitive but also giving confidence to individuals who may takeup this aspect of the sport.
Leaving Poole Quay aboard charter boat Mistress Linda, skippered by Phil Higgins. The day started of with drift fishing for bream at theentrance tothe harbour. With advice given and rigs and baits chosen to match species and conditions fish were quickly coming on board. This was to be the pattern of the day with Phil choosing many different locations, states of tides and fishing both on the drift and at anchor, at times fishing for the smaller species as well as the larger rays etc with the more experienced giving their help throughout the day. Along with the usual catches some notable fish were undulate rays, red mullet, two codling and a 7lb 8oz lobster caught by Robin Lane (he said he was using his lobster rig which can sometimes catch bream also).
An added bonus of the day was the fact we were fishing whilst the first dayof the Bournemouth Air Show was taking place and were buzzed by a Lancaster Bomber. A big thank you to Robin for organising the trip, Malcolm Stote for all his advice and to Phil for all his experience gladly given.
Dates for next year's Vernon Everitt Match Boat League have now been booked and any member wishing to participate should contact Robin Lane on 07876 471901 for more details.
