Vernon Everitt Match Boat League 4th Competition.

On Saturday 27th July the club held its fourth competition in a series of six of the Vernon Everitt Match League competitions which is kindly sponsored by Loni's Angling Centre of New Milton.
With the weather and tides being favourable 16 club members left Poole Quay aboard two charter boats, "Boney M" skippered by Louis Medley and "Mistress Linda" skippered by Phil Higgins. These matches are fished on the basis of the number of types of species caught, with varying number of points having been allocated for each species and totals of each species with 10 being the maximum number caught of any one species. With a set maximum fishing time both skippers can choose where they fish throughout the day.
Both boats' first stop was a drift for plaice on the grounds around the two piers off Bournemonth and then onto an area of rough ground to push point totals up for anglers catching the many smaller species of wrasse along with pouting and gurnard. Next move to deeper water for the larger species including rays,
smooth hounds, dogfish, bream and mackerel.
Among the better fish were a couches bream for Arran Harmer which is a first of its kind for the league and a small eyed ray weighing 10lbs 3ozs for Andy Southwick.
Match Results by Boat:
"Boney M". Finised the day on 16 species caught with Martin Bobbett catching 12 species and with the highest number of points claiming the boat win. Followed by Robin Lane with 10 species, followed by Andy Southwick, Ed Taylor, Ben Daniel, Malcolm Gerrish, Karl Bates and Paul Wilson.
